AD VALOREM TAX PAYMENTS:

Taxes can be paid in full or in 2 installments.  The full amount or first half must be paid by December 31st.  The second half must be paid by March 31st.  If at least one-half of the tax bill is not paid by December 31st the entire tax bill becomes delinquent and accumulates 1.5% interest per month beginning January 16th.  If the second half of the tax bill is not paid by March 31st, the unpaid amount becomes delinquent and accumulates 1.5% interest per month beginning April 16th.

EXCEPTIONS:  Mortgage servicers must pay the tax bill for all accounts they are servicing in full by December 31st.

REAL ESTATE MORTGAGE TAX:

Mortgage Tax must be paid on every mortgage before it can be recorded in the County Clerk’s Office.  The mortgagor, the mortgagee or any other interested party may pay the mortgage tax.  SA&I Form No. 443, Mortgage Tax Information, must accompany any mortgage document presented to the County Treasurer for payment of the mortgage tax.  In addition to the mortgage tax, the County Treasurer must also collect a $5.00 certification fee on each mortgage presented.  You can click on the “Mortgage Tax Calculator” above to figure the amount of mortgage tax due on a mortgage.
